Weight Loss Medications
What is semaglutide?
Semaglutide, also known as Ozempic® or Wegovy®, is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes and as an anti-obesity medication for long-term weight management. It is derived from a modified molecule called GLP1, which our bodies naturally produce. By decreasing blood sugars and appetite, semaglutide helps achieve glucose homeostasis and triggers the burning of fat storage for energy. The results from taking this medication can be dramatic and life changing.

How does semaglutide work?
Semaglutide works in various ways throughout your body to support weight management:
- Stomach: It delays gastric emptying, helping you feel fuller for longer.
- Brain: It helps regulate appetite and cravings, empowering you to make healthier choices.
- Pancreas: It aids the pancreas in releasing the right amount of insulin when blood sugar levels are high. Insulin helps move sugar from the blood into other body tissues where it is used for energy.
- Liver: Semaglutide reduces the production of glucose, leading to lower blood sugar levels.
You can also choose to add on a vitamin injection, which further stimulates and increases your metabolism. Alongside weight loss, patients taking semaglutide have also seen a decreased risk of conditions like cardiovascular disease, joint pain, addictions, and reduced blood pressure.
